Festival of Bertoni

If there is one thing in this world that I’ve managed to eat too much of it would without a doubt be, Italian food. The Festival of Bertoni, held at their newest location in Farrer Place, was by far one of the most laid back, homely experiences I’ve had in such a long time!

The atmosphere was incredible, the service immepecable and the food…for lack of a better way of describing it, just like mama used to make it! Aside from the fact that I’m not Italian (but my mum really does have some great cooking skills), I felt like I was transported to Italy. For anyone that’s been to Italy and experienced an authentic home cooked meal, this is exactly what that’s like!

The chefs know exactly what they’re talking about (which is something you’d generally think is a given when you’re dining out…sometimes you’d be surprised) and they cook the food with heart (not in a Masterchef way, I’m talking chefs that have more than “a dream” to be on a reality show). I don’t think I can praise the taste quite enough and in all honesty my words would do it no justice!

Bertoni is the labour of love from the Iacono brothers, Anthony and Albert (get it? Bertoni…(Al)Bert(Anth)on(y)I) and of course their classic family recipes, given a modern twist by culinary masters Danny Russo and Naomi Lowry.

The Festival of Bertioni menu was potentially one of the greatest I’ve been fortunate enough to sample, from the cured meats, cheese and olives to the homemade mozzarella, fried salt and pepper squid with squid ink aioli, the various forms of gnocchi being prepared around the restaurant and served with intoxicating flavours and of course the holy grail of dessert, tiramisu and Nutella ciambella. Let’s also not forget the fact that I asked for the complete monstrosity of a Nutella, tiramisu ciambella which was by the way, one of the GREATEST combinations, given the opportunity you NEED to try it!

Overall what I thought was going to be a sit down menu sampler turned out to be one of the GREATEST interactive demonstrations, networking, food tasting events. A HUGE thank you and praise should be given to the ladies of Polkadot PR, they did an exceptionally incredible job!

Now, it’s not a question of IF I’d go back, it’s WHEN!
